The7th,8th,9th,10th,andpartofthe12th(forthe11thwasSunday)Itookwhollyuptomakemeachair,andwithmuchado,broughtittoatolerableshape,butnevertopleaseme; andeveninthemakingIpulledittopiecesseveraltimes. Note,IsoonneglectedmykeepingSundays;for,omittingmymarkforthemonmypost,Iforgotwhichwaswhich.
November13. —Thisdayitrained,whichrefreshedmeexceedingly,andcooledtheearth;butitwasaccompaniedwithterriblethunderandlightning,whichfrightedmedreadfully,forfearofmypowder. Assoonasitwasover,Iresolvedtoseparatemystockofpowderintoasmanylittleparcelsaspossible,thatitmightnotbeindanger.
November14,15,16. —ThesethreedaysIspentinmakinglittlesquarechestsorboxes,whichmightholdaboutapound,ortwopoundatmost,ofpowder; andsoputtingthepowderin,Istoweditinplacesassecureandremotefromoneanotheraspossible. OnoneofthesethreedaysIkilledalargebirdthatwasgoodtoeat,butIknownotwhattocallit.
November17. —ThisdayIbegantodigbehindmytentintotherock,tomakeroomformyfartherconveniency. Note,threethingsIwantedexceedingforthiswork,viz., apick-axe,ashovel,andawheelbarroworbasket; soIdesistedfrommywork,andbegantoconsiderhowtosupplythatwant,andmakemesometools.
