However,atpresentwehadnonecessity; foruponfiringthefirstvolleytheenemymadeafullstop,beingterrifiedaswellwiththenoiseaswiththefire. Fourofthembeingshotintothehead,dropped; severalotherswerewounded,andwentbleedingoff,aswecouldseebythesnow. Ifoundtheystopped,butdidnotimmediatelyretreat; whereupon,rememberingthatIhadbeentoldthatthefiercestcreatureswereterrifiedatthevoiceofaman,Icauseallourcompanytohallooasloudaswecould,andIfoundthenotionnotaltogethermistaken,foruponourshouttheybegantoretireandturnabout. ThenIorderedasecondvolleytobefiredintheirrear,whichputthemtothegallop,andawaytheywenttothewoods.
