However,toshortenthestory,Fridaydancedsomuch,andthebearstoodsoticklish,thatwehadlaughingenoughindeed,butstillcouldnotimaginewhatthefellowwoulddo; forfirstwethoughthedependeduponshakingthebearoff;andwefoundthebearwastoocunningforthattoo; forhewouldnotgooutfarenoughtobethrowndown,butclingsfastwithhisgreatbroadclawsandfeet,sothatwecouldnotimaginewhatwouldbetheendofit,andwherethejestwouldbeatlast.
ButFridayputusoutofdoubtquickly; forseeingthebearclingfasttothebough,andthathewouldnotbepersuadedtocomeanyfarther, "Well,well,"saysFriday, "younocomefarther,mego,mego;younocometome,megocometoyou;" anduponthishegoesouttothesmallestendofthebough,whereitwouldbendwithhisweight,andgentlyletshimselfdownbyit,slidingdowntheboughtillhecamenearenoughtojumpdownonhisfeet,andawayherantohisgun,takesitup,andstandsstill.
