Theman,indeed,wasmosthurt; fortheragingcreaturehadbithimtwice,onceonthearm,andtheothertimealittleabovehisknee; andhewasjust,asitwere,tumblingdownbythedisorderofhishorse,whenFridaycameupandshotthewolf.
ItiseasytosupposethatatthenoiseofFriday’spistolweallmendedourpace,andridupasfastastheway,whichwasverydifficult,shouldgiveusleave,toseewhatwasthematter. Assoonaswecameclearofthetrees,whichblindedusbefore,wesawclearlywhathadbeenthecase,andhowFridayhaddisengagedthepoorguide,thoughwedidnotpresentlydiscernwhatkindofcreatureitwashehadkilled.
