Allwhichhepunctuallyperformed,anddefacedtheveryappearanceofthesavagesbeingthere; sothatwhenIwentagainIcouldscarceknowwhereitwas,otherwisethanbythecornerofthewoodpointingtotheplace.
Ithenbegantoenterintoalittleconversationwithmytwonewsubjects; andfirst,IsetFridaytoinquireofhisfatherwhathethoughtoftheescapeofthesavagesinthatcanoe,andwhetherwemightexpectareturnofthem,withapowertoogreatforustoresist. Hisfirstopinionwas,thatthesavagesintheboatnevercouldliveoutthestormwhichblewthatnighttheywentoff,butmust,ofnecessity,bedrowned,ordrivensouthtothoseothershores,wheretheywereassuretobedevouredastheyweretobedrownediftheywerecastaway.
