           Theplacewascoveredwithhumanbones,thegrounddyedwiththeirblood,greatpiecesoffleshlefthereandthere,half-eaten,mangledandscorched; and,inshort,allthetokensofthetriumphantfeasttheyhadbeenmakingthere,afteravictoryoftheirenemies. Isawthreeskulls,fivehands,andthebonesofthreeorfourlegsandfeet,andabundanceofotherpartsofthebodies; andFriday,byhissigns,mademeunderstandthattheybroughtoverfourprisonerstofeastupon;thatthreeofthemwereeatenup,andthathe,pointingtohimself,wasthefourth; thattherehadbeenagreatbattlebetweenthemandtheirnextking,whosesubjectsitseemshehadbeenoneof,andthattheyhadtakenagreatnumberofprisoners; allwhichwerecarriedtoseveralplaces,bythosewhohadtakentheminthefight,inordertofeastuponthem,aswasdoneherebythesewretchesuponthosetheybroughthither. 

           IcauseFridaytogatheralltheskulls,bones,flesh,andwhateverremained,andlaythemtogetheronaheap,andmakeagreatfireuponit,andburnthemalltoashes. IfoundFridayhadstillahankeringstomachaftersomeoftheflesh,andwasstillacannibalinhisnature; butIdiscoveredsomuchabhorrenceattheverythoughtsofit,andattheleastappearanceofit,thathedurstnotdiscoverit; forIhad,bysomemeans,lethimknowthatIwouldkillhimifheofferedit. 

           Whenwehaddonethiswecamebacktoourcastle,andthereIfelltoworkformymanFriday; and,firstofall,Igavehim-apairoflinendrawers,whichIhadoutofthepoorgunner’schestImentioned,andwhichIfoundinthewreck; andwhich,withalittlealteration,fittedhimverywell.
