Tothisshorttimeallowedforlabor,desiremaybeaddedtheexceedinglaboriousnessofmywork;themanyhourswhich,forwantoftools,wantofhelp,andwantofskill,everythingIdidtookupoutofmytime. Forexample,Iwasfulltwoandfortydaysmakingmeaboardforalongshelf,whichIwantedinmycave; whereastwosawyers,withtheirtoolsandasaw-pit,wouldhavecutsixofthemoutofthesametreeinhalfaday.
Mycasewasthis: itwastobealargetreewhichwastobecutdown,becausemyboardwastobeabroadone. ThistreeIwasthreedaysa-cuttingdown,andtwomorecuttingofftheboughs,andreducingittoalog,orpieceoftimber.
