IthappenedtomyfarthermisfortunethattheweatherprovedhazyforthreeorfourdayswhileIwasinthisvalley; andnotbeingabletoseethesun,Iwanderedaboutveryuncomfortably,andatlastwasobligedtofindouttheseaside,lookformypost,andcomebackthesamewayIwent; andthenbyeasyjourneysIturnedhomeward,theweatherbeingexceedinghot,andmygun,ammunition,hatchet,andotherthingsveryheavy.
Inthisjourneymydogsurprisedayoungkid,andseizeduponit,andIrunningintotakeholdofit,caughtit,andsaveditalivefromthedog. IhadagreatmindtobringithomeifIcould,forIhadoftenbeenmusingwhetheritmightnotbepossibletogetakidortwo,andsoraiseabreedoftamegoats,whichmightsupplymewhenmypowderandshotshouldbeallspent.
Imadeacollartothislittlecreature,andwithastring,whichImadeofsomerope-yarn,whichIalwayscarriedaboutme,Iledhimalong,thoughwithsomedifficulty, tillIcametomybower,andthereIenclosedhimandlefthim,forIwasveryimpatienttobeathome,fromwhenceIhadbeenabsentaboveamonth.
