           SherepresentedtohimalltheimproprietiesofLydia’sgeneralbehaviour,thelittleadvantageshecouldderivefromthefriendshipofsuchawomanasMrs.Forster, andtheprobabilityofherbeingyetmoreimprudentwithsuchacompanionatBrighton,wherethetemptationsmustbegreaterthanathome. Heheardherattentively,andthensaid: 

           "Lydiawillneverbeeasyuntilshehasexposedherselfinsomepublicplaceorother,andwecanneverexpecthertodoitwithsolittleexpenseorinconveniencetoherfamilyasunderthepresentcircumstances."
