Chapter 9

           Elizabethpassedthechiefofthenightinhersister’sroom,andinthemorninghadthepleasureofbeingabletosendatolerableanswertotheinquirieswhichsheveryearlyreceivedfromMr.Bingleybyahousemaid,andsometimeafterwardsfromthetwoelegantladieswhowaitedonhissisters. Inspiteofthisamendment,however,sherequestedtohaveanotesenttoLongbourn,desiringhermothertovisitJane,andformherownjudgementofhersituation. Thenotewasimmediatelydispatched,anditscontentsasquicklycompliedwith. Mrs.Bennet,accompaniedbyhertwoyoungestgirls,reachedNetherfieldsoonafterthefamilybreakfast. 

           HadshefoundJaneinanyapparentdanger,Mrs.Bennetwouldhavebeenverymiserable; butbeingsatisfiedonseeingherthatherillnesswasnotalarming,shehadnowishofherrecoveringimmediately,asherrestorationtohealthwouldprobablyremoveherfromNetherfield. Shewouldnotlisten,therefore,toherdaughter’sproposalofbeingcarriedhome; neitherdidtheapothecary,whoarrivedaboutthesametime,thinkitatalladvisable. AftersittingalittlewhilewithJane,onMissBingley’sappearanceandinvitation,themotherandthreedaughterallattendedherintothebreakfastparlour. BingleymetthemwithhopesthatMrs.BennethadnotfoundMissBennetworsethansheexpected. 

           "IndeedIhave,sir,"washeranswer. "Sheisagreatdealtooilltobemoved. Mr.Jonessayswemustnotthinkofmovingher. Wemusttrespassalittlelongeronyourkindness." 

           "Removed!"criedBingley. "Itmustnotbethoughtof. Mysister,Iamsure,willnothearofherremoval."
