Nowhesawalmosttwohundredmilesofcountryside,muchofitsprawlingworldmetropolis,andsavoredeveryinchofit,triedtogrokit.Hewasstartledbytheenormoussizeofhumancitiesandbytheirbustlingactivityvisibleevenfromtheair,soverydifferentfromtheslowmotion,monestary-gardenpaceofcitiesofhisownpeople.Itseemedtohimthatahumancitymustwearoutalmostatonce,becomingsochokedwithlivingexperiencethatonlythestrongestoftheOldOnescouldbeartovisititsdesertedstreetsandgrokincontemplationtheeventsandemotionspiledlayeronendlessLayerinit.
