           Outofthemidstofthesewaves,withtheiralternationsoflightandshadow,adeepplaintivevoicesentupacry,thetonesofwhichthrilledthrougheveryfiberoftheirbeing.

           "Come!come!"werethewordswhichfellontheirears.

           Theybothstartedupandleanedovertherailing,andpeeredintothegloomwithquestioningeyes.

           "Mary,youheardthat?Youheardthat?"criedRobert.

           Buttheysawnothingbutthelongshadowthatstretchedbeforethem.
