Whathadoncebeenrevelryhadnowbecomefrenzy.Whathadoncebeencelebrationhadnowbecomeafranticflightforlife.Fewescaped.Mostofthosewhohadwaitedforhoursinlinetowelcometheirprincebacknowlaydead,bloodcongealingfromhideouswounds,limbsrippedoff,bodiesbroken.Ambassadorsnowlaywithcommoners,menandwomenwithchildren,allhideouslyequalindeath.
Arthasdidnotcarewhattheireventualfatewas—carrionforthecrows,ornewsubjectstofollowhisrule.Hewouldleavethattohiscaptains,FalricandMarwyn,asbone-whiteasheandtwiceasmerciless.Arthasmarchedthroughthewayhehadcome,focusedandintentupononesinglething.
Onceclearofthecourtyardandthecorpses,animatedorstill,hebrokeintoarun.Nohorsewouldbearhimnow;thebeastsgrewfranticatthesmellofhimandthosewhofollowedhim.Buthehadfoundthathedidnottire;notwhenFrostmourne,ortheLichKingwhospoketohimthroughtheruneblade,waswhisperingtohim.Andsoheranswiftly,hislegscarryinghimtoaplacehehadnotbeeninyears.
