"She—orsomething—wreckedusinthedesertwhenwehadcomefromthetombintheValleyoftheSorcerer!"wasthegrimcommentofCorbeck,whowasstandingby.Margaretansweredhimlikeaflash:
"Ah!shewasthennearhertombfromwhichforthousandsofyearsherbodyhadnotbeenmoved.Shemustknowthatthingsaredifferentnow."
"Howmustsheknow?"askedCorbeckkeenly.
"IfshehasthatastralbodythatFatherspokeof,surelyshemustknow!Howcanshefailto,withaninvisiblepresenceandanintellectthatcanroamabroadeventothestarsandtheworldsbeyondus!"Shepaused,andherfathersaidsolemnly:

Margarettookhishandandhelditinadreamykindofwayaswefiledoutofthehouse.Shewasholdingitstillwhenhelockedthehalldoor,andwhenwemoveduptheroadtothegateway,whencewetookacabtoPaddington.
Whenallthegoodswereloadedatthestation,thewholeoftheworkmenwentontothetrain;thistookalsosomeofthestone-wagonsusedforcarryingthecaseswiththegreatsarcophagi.
