           "Afterallheismyfriend,"saidthewizard,"andnotabadlittlechap.Ifeelresponsibleforhim.Iwishtogoodnessyouhadnotlosthim."

           Thedwarveswantedtoknowwhyhehadeverbeenbroughtatall,whyhecouldnotsticktohisfriendsandcomealongwiththem,andwhythewizardhadnotchosensomeonewithmoresense."Hehasbeenmoretroublethanusesofar,"saidone."Ifwehavegotto’gobacknowintothoseabominabletunnelstolookforhim,thendrathim,Isay."

           Gandalfansweredangrily:"Ibroughthim,andIdon’tbringthingsthatareofnouse.Eitheryouhelpmetolookforhim,orIgoandleaveyouheretogetoutofthemessasbestyoucanyourselves.Ifwecanonlyfindhimagain,youwillthankmebeforeallisover.Whateverdidyouwanttogoanddrophimfor,Dori?"

           "Youwouldhavedroppedhim,"saidDori,"ifagoblinhadsuddenlygrabbedyourlegfrombehindinthedark,trippedupyourfeet,andkickedyouintheback!"

           "Thenwhydidn’tyoupickhimupagain?"

           "Goodheavens!Canyouask!Goblinsfightingandbitinginthedark,everybodyfallingoverbodiesandhittingoneanother!
