Thentheyhalted,forthewizardandBilbowouldnotenterthewood,eventhoughthekingbadethemstayawhileinhishalls.Theyintendedtogoalongtheedgeoftheforest,androunditsnorthernendinthewastethatlaybetweenitandthebeginningoftheGreyMountains.Itwasalongandcheerlessroad,butnowthatthegoblinswerecrushed,itseemedsafertothemthanthedreadfulpathwaysunderthetrees.MoreoverBeornwasgoingthatwaytoo.
