Theolderauthoritiesseemedrathermorehelpfulthanthenewerones,andArmitageconcludedthatthecodeofthemanuscriptwasoneofgreatantiquity,nodoubthandeddownthroughalonglineofmysticalexperimenters. Severaltimesheseemedneardaylight,onlytobesetbackbysomeunforeseenobstacle. Then,asSeptemberapproached,thecloudsbegantoclear.
