Privately,afterawhile,Tomorganisedaroyalcourt! Hewastheprince; hisspecialcomradeswereguards,chamberlains,equerries,lordsandladiesinwaiting,andtheroyalfamily. DailythemockprincewasreceivedwithelaborateceremonialsborrowedbyTomfromhisromanticreadings; dailythegreataffairsofthemimickingdomwerediscussedintheroyalcouncil,anddailyhismimichighnessissueddecreestohisimaginaryarmies,navies,andviceroyalties.
Afterwhich,hewouldgoforthinhisragsandbegafewfarthings,eathispoorcrust,takehiscustomarycuffsandabuse,andthenstretchhimselfuponhishandfuloffoulstraw,andresumehisemptygrandeursinhisdreams.
