Butthecouragethathadbeenawakenedinhimwasnowtoostrong:hecouldnotleavehisfriendssoeasily.Hewavered,gropinginhispocket,andthenfoughtwithhimselfagain;andashedidsothearmcreptnearer.Suddenlyresolvehardenedinhim,andheseizedashortswordthatlaybesidehim,andkneelinghestoopedlowoverthebodiesofhiscompanions.
