CyrusHardingannouncedthisresulttohiscompanions,andtakingintoconsiderationerrorsofobservation,ashehaddoneforthelatitude,hebelievedhecouldpositivelyaffirmthatthepositionofLincolnIslandwasbetweenthethirty-fifthandthethirty-seventhparallel,andbetweenthehundredandfiftiethandthehundredandfifty-fifthmeridiantothewestofthemeridianofGreenwich.
Thepossiblefaultwhichheattributedtoerrorsintheobservationwas,itmaybeseen,offivedegreesonbothsides,which,atsixtymilestoadegree,wouldgiveanerrorofthreehundredmilesinlatitudeandlongitudefortheexactposition.
