           InthemeantimethenewspaperswerereadatSierraVista,notsomuchwithinterestaswithanxiety. Thewomenwereafraid. JudgeScottpooh-poohedandlaughed,butnotwithreason,foritwasinhislastdaysonthebenchthatJimHallhadstoodbeforehimandreceivedsentence. Andinopencourt-room,beforeallmen,JimHallhadproclaimedthatthedaywouldcomewhenhewouldwreakvengeanceontheJudgethatsentencedhim. 

           Foronce,JimHallwasright. Hewasinnocentofthecrimeforwhichhewassentenced. Itwasacase,intheparlanceofthievesandpolice,of"rail-roading." JimHallwasbeing"rail-roaded"toprisonforacrimehehadnotcommitted. Becauseofthetwopriorconvictionsagainsthim,JudgeScottimposeduponhimasentenceoffiftyyears. 

           JudgeScottdidnotknowallthings,andhedidnotknowthathewaspartytoapoliceconspiracy,thattheevidencewashatchedandperjured,thatJimHallwasguiltlessofthecrimecharged. AndJimHall,ontheotherhand,didnotknowthatJudgeScottwasmerelyignorant. JimHallbelievedthatthejudgeknewallaboutitandwashandinglovewiththepoliceintheperpetrationofthemonstrousinjustice. Soitwas,whenthedoomoffiftyyearsoflivingdeathwasutteredbyJudgeScott,thatJimHall,hatingallthingsinthesocietythatmisusedhim,roseupandragedinthecourt-roomuntildraggeddownbyhalfadozenofhisblue-coatedenemies. Tohim,JudgeScottwasthekeystoneinthearchofinjustice,anduponJudgeScottheemptiedthevialsofhiswrathandhurledthethreatsofhisrevengeyettocome. ThenJimHallwenttohislivingdeath...andescaped.
