“Gurney’saromantic,”theDukegrowled.Thistalkofkillingsuddenlydisturbedhim,comingfromhisson.“I’dsooneryouneverhadtokill...butiftheneedarises,youdoithoweveryoucan—tiporedge.”Helookedupattheskylight,onwhichtherainwasdrumming.
Seeingthedirectionofhisfather’sstare,Paulthoughtofthewetskiesoutthere—athingnevertobeseenonArrakisfromallaccounts—andthisthoughtofskiesputhiminmindofthespacebeyond.“AretheGuildshipsreallybig?”heasked.
TheDukelookedathim.“Thiswillbeyourfirsttimeoffplanet,”hesaid.
“Yes,they’rebig.We’llberidingaHeighlinerbecauseit’salongtrip.AHeighlineristrulybig.Itsholdwilltuckallourfrigatesandtransportsintoalittlecorner—we’llbejustasmallpartoftheship’smanifest.”
