           Gurneyacceptedthebundle,puzzledbythehardundertonesinthisconversation.Therewasanairofchallengeabouttheman,andGurneywonderedifitcouldbeafeelingofjealousyintheFremen.HerewassomeonecalledGurneyHalleckwho’dknownPauleveninthetimesbeforeArrakis,amanwhosharedacameraderiethatStilgarcouldneverinvade.

           “YouaretwoI’dhavebefriends,”Paulsaid.

           “Stilgar,theFremen,isanameofrenown,”Gurneysaid.“AnykillerofHarkonnensI’dfeelhonoredtocountamongmyfriends.”

           “WillyoutouchhandswithmyfriendGurneyHalleck,Stilgar?”Paulasked.

           Slowly,Stilgarextendedhishand,grippedtheheavycallusesofGurney’sswordhand.“There’refewwhohaven’theardthenameofGurneyHalleck,”hesaid,andreleasedhisgrip.HeturnedtoPaul.“Thestormcomesrushing.”

           “Atonce,”Paulsaid.

           Stilgarturnedaway,ledthemdownthroughtherocks,atwistingandturningpathintoashadowedcleftthatadmittedthemtothelowentranceofacave.Menhurriedtofastenadoorsealbehindthem.Glowglobesshowedabroad,dome-ceilingedspacewitharaisedledgeononesideandapassageleadingofffromit.

           PaulleapedtotheledgewithGurneyrightbehindhim,ledthewayintothepassage.
