TherecameawhisperedimprecationfromabovePaulandalowvoice:“Callmespawnofalizard!”Buttheshadowpulledbackoutofview.
Paulreturnedhisattentiontothebasin,pickingoutthegray-shadowedmovementofStilgarbesidehismother.
“Comein,allofyou,”Stilgarcalled.HeturnedtoJessica.“AndnowI’llaskyouhowwemaybecertainyou’llfulfillyourhalfofourbargain?You’retheone’slivedwithpapersandemptycontractsandsuchas—”
“WeoftheBeneGesseritdon’tbreakourvowsanymorethanyoudo,”
Jessicasaid.

Paulbroughthiscapturedweaponfromhissash,traineditonthedarkfigureofStilgar,butthemanandhiscompanionsremainedimmobile,staringatJessica.
