           Calmnessdrainedoutofher.Jessicafeltherteethchattering,clampedthemtogether.ThensheheardPaul’svoice,lowandcontrolled,recitingthelitany:

           “Fearisthemind-killer.Fearisthelittledeaththatbringstotalobliteration.Iwillfacemyfear.Iwillpermitittopassovermeandthroughme.AndwhenithasgonepastmeIwillturntoseefear’spath.Wherethefearhasgonetherewillbenothing.OnlyIwillremain.”
