TheKing’ssonwasbesidehimselfwithgrief,andinhisagonyhesprangfromthetower:heescapedwithlife,butthethornsonwhichhefellputouthiseyes. Thenhewanderedblindthroughthewood,eatingnothingbutrootsandberries,anddoingnothingbutlamentandweepforthelossofhisdearestwife.
SohewanderedseveralyearsinmiseryuntilatlasthecametothedesertplacewhereRapunzellivedwithhertwin-childrenthatshehadborne,aboyandagirl. Atfirstheheardavoicethathethoughtheknew,andwhenhereachedtheplacefromwhichitseemedtocomeRapunzelknewhim,andfellonhisneckandwept.
