TheCowardlyLionandtheHungryTigercamein,withbrightnewbowsofribbonontheircollarsandtails.AftergreetingDorothyaffectionatelythehugebeastslaydownatthefootofthethrone.
Whiletheywaited,theScarecrow,whowasnearthelittleboy,asked:
"WhyareyoucalledButton-Bright?"
"Don’tknow,"wastheanswer.
"Ohyes,youdo,dear,"saidDorothy."TelltheScarecrowhowyougotyourname."
"PapaalwayssaidIwasbrightasabutton,somamaalwayscalledmeButton-Bright,"announcedtheboy.
"Whereisyourmama?"askedtheScarecrow.
