Istayedlatethatnight,Gatsbyaskedmetowaituntilhewasfree,andIlingeredinthegardenuntiltheinevitableswimmingpartyhadrunup,chilledandexalted,fromtheblackbeach,untilthelightswereextinguishedintheguest-roomsoverhead.Whenhecamedownthestepsatlastthetannedskinwasdrawnunusuallytightonhisface,andhiseyeswerebrightandtired.
