           Thewindroseinthenightandatthreeo’clockinthemorningwiththeraincominginsheetstherewasabombardmentandtheCroatianscameoveracrossthemountainmeadowsandthroughpatchesofwoodsandintothefrontline.Theyfoughtinthedarkintherainandacounter-attackofscaredmenfromthesecondlinedrovethemback.Therewasmuchshellingandmanyrocketsintherainandmachine-gunandriflefireallalongtheline.Theydidnotcomeagainanditwasquieterandbetweenthegustsofwindandrainwecouldhearthesoundofagreatbombardmentfartothenorth.

           Thewoundedwerecomingintothepost,somewerecarriedonstretchers,somewalkingandsomewerebroughtonthebacksofmenthatcameacrossthefield.Theywerewettotheskinandallwerescared.WefilledtwocarswithstretchercasesastheycameupfromthecellarofthepostandasIshutthedoorofthesecondcarandfasteneditIfelttherainonmyfaceturntosnow.Theflakeswerecomingheavyandfastintherain.

           Whendaylightcamethestormwasstillblowingbutthesnowhadstopped.Ithadmeltedasitfellonthewetgroundandnowitwasrainingagain.Therewasanotherattackjustafterdaylightbutitwasunsuccessful.Weexpectedanattackalldaybutitdidnotcomeuntilthesunwasgoingdown.ThebombardmentstartedtothesouthbelowthelongwoodedridgewheretheAustriangunswereconcentrated.Weexpectedabombardmentbutitdidnotcome.Itwasgettingdark.
