“There’snowayunlesstheydigitoutoftheearthorpickitoffthetrees,”Mrs.Medlockanswered.“Theystayoutinthegroundsalldayandseenoonebuteachother.Andiftheywantanythingdifferenttoeatfromwhat’ssentuptothemtheyneedonlyaskforit.”
“Well,”saidDr.Craven,“solongasgoingwithoutfoodagreeswiththemweneednotdisturbourselves.Theboyisanewcreature.”
“Soisthegirl,”saidMrs.Medlock.“She’sbeguntobedownrightprettysinceshe’sfilledoutandlostheruglylittlesourlook.Herhair’sgrownthickandhealthylookingandshe’sgotabrightcolor.Theglummest,ill-naturedlittlethingsheusedtobeandnowherandMasterColinlaughtogetherlikeapairofcrazyyoungones.Perhapsthey’regrowingfatonthat.”
