ShethoughtMrs.Medlockthemostdisagreeablepersonshehadeverseen,withhercommon,highlycoloredfaceandhercommonfinebonnet.WhenthenextdaytheysetoutontheirjourneytoYorkshire,shewalkedthroughthestationtotherailwaycarriagewithherheadupandtryingtokeepasfarawayfromherasshecould,becauseshedidnotwanttoseemtobelongtoher.Itwouldhavemadeherangrytothinkpeopleimaginedshewasherlittlegirl.
ButMrs.Medlockwasnotintheleastdisturbedbyherandherthoughts.Shewasthekindofwomanwhowould“standnononsensefromyoungones.
