           Ifyoushutyoureyesandarealuckyone,youmayseeattimesashapelesspooloflovelypalecolourssuspendedinthedarkness;thenifyousqueezeyoureyestighter,thepoolbeginstotakeshape,andthecoloursbecomesovividthatwithanothersqueezetheymustgoonfire.Butjustbeforetheygoonfireyouseethelagoon.Thisisthenearestyouevergettoitonthemainland,justoneheavenlymoment;iftherecouldbetwomomentsyoumightseethesurfandhearthemermaidssinging.

           Theytreatedalltheboysinthesameway,exceptofcoursePeter,whochattedwiththemonMarooners’Rockbythehour,andsatontheirtailswhentheygotcheeky.HegaveWendyoneoftheircombs.
