FromthetimehehadleftthehouseinSohoonthemorningofthemurder,hewassimplyblottedout; andgradually,astimedrewon,Mr.Uttersonbegantorecoverfromthehotnessofhisalarm,andtogrowmoreatquietwithhimself. ThedeathofSirDanverswas,tohiswayofthinking,morethanpaidforbythedisappearanceofMr.Hyde. Nowthatthatevilinfluencehadbeenwithdrawn,anewlifebeganforDr.Jekyll. Hecameoutofhisseclusion,renewedrelationswithhisfriends,becameoncemoretheirfamiliarguestandentertainer; andwhilsthehadalwaysbeen,knownforcharities,hewasnownolessdistinguishedforreligion. Hewasbusy,hewasmuchintheopenair,hedidgood;hisfaceseemedtoopenandbrighten,asifwithaninwardconsciousnessofservice; andformorethantwomonths,thedoctorwasatpeace.
