           Andthentheelderdaughter,Stella,testifyingthatduringthelatterpartofOctoberorthefirstofNovember,shortlyafterRobertahadtakentheroom,shehadpassedherandaman,whomshewasnowabletoidentifyasClyde,standinglessthanahundredfeetfromthehouse,andnoticingthattheywereevidentlyquarrelingshehadpausedtolisten.Shewasnotabletodistinguisheverywordoftheconversation,butuponleadingquestionsfromMasonwasabletorecallthatRobertahadprotestedthatshecouldnotlethimcomeintoherroom—"itwouldnotlookright."Andhehadfinallyturneduponhisheel,leavingRobertastandingwithoutstretchedarmsasifimploringhimtoreturn.
