Itwasjustasifshewerelostinavastforest, andohhowsheshiveredwithcold! Thenshecametothedoorofafieldmouse,whohadalittleholeamidstthestubble. Therethismouselived,warmandcozy,withawholestore-roomofgrain,andamagnificentkitchenandpantry. PoorThumbelinastoodatthedoor,justlikeabeggarchild,andpledforalittlebitofbarley,becauseshehadn’thadanythingtoeatfortwodayspast.
