Shetookhoneyfromtheflowersforfood,anddrankthedewwhichshefoundontheleaveseverymorning. Inthiswaythesummerandfallwentby. Thencamethewinter,thelong,coldwinter. Allthebirdswhohadsungsosweetlyforherflewaway.Thetreesandtheflowerswithered. Thebigburdockleafunderwhichshehadlivedshriveledupuntilnothingwasleftofitbutadry,yellowstalk. Shewasterriblycold,forherclotheshadwornthreadbareandsheherselfwassoslenderandfrail. PoorThumbelina,shewouldfreezetodeath!
