           LaterthateveningEricsat,aspromised,inhisroomwithoutpayment.MommyandDaddyhadgonetothemovies,Bobbyhadvanished,andifEricopenedhisdoorhecouldhearafaintmurmurfromthesittingroom.InthereBettysat,talkingsoftlywithherRoger.Ericopenedthedoortwice,tryingtocatchwhattheyweresaying,buthecouldnothear.Thenhewenttothewindowandpeeredoutintothegatheringdarkness.HelookedupanddownthestreettoseeifBridgetandChristopherwerethere.Butheonlysawtwobigboysfighting.Thescrapwasinterestingwhileitlasted,butunfortunatelytheboyssoonstoppedandeverythingwasquietandboringagain.
