TheGovernor,inadvanceofhisvisitors,ascendedoneortwosteps,and,throwingopentheleavesofthegreathallwindow,foundhimselfclosetolittlePearl.TheshadowofthecurtainfellonHesterPrynne,andpartiallyconcealedher.
