           OncemoreRalphdreamed,lettinghisskillfulfeetdealwiththedifficultiesofthepath.Yetherehisfeetseemedlessskillfulthanbefore.Formostofthewaytheywereforcedrightdowntothebarerockbythewaterandhadtoedgealongbetweenthatandthedarkluxurianceoftheforest.Therewerelittlecliffstobescaled,sometobeusedaspaths,lengthytraverseswhereoneusedhandsaswellasfeet.Hereandtheretheycouldclamberoverwave-wetrock,leapingacrossclearpoolsthatthetidehadleft.Theycametoagullythatsplitthenarrowforeshorelikeadefense.Thisseemedtohavenobottomandtheypeeredawe-strickenintothegloomycrackwherewatergurgled.Thenthewavecameback,thegullyboiledbeforethemandspraydasheduptotheverycreepersothattheboyswerewetandshrieking.Theytriedtheforestbutitwasthickandwovenlikeabird’snest.Intheendtheyhadtojumponebyone,waitingtillthewatersank;andevenso,someofthemgotaseconddrenching.
