Hismusclesweresurchargedwithvitality,andsnappedintoplaysharply,likesteelsprings. Lifestreamedthroughhiminsplendidflood,gladandrampant,untilitseemedthatitwouldbursthimasunderinsheerecstasyandpourforthgenerouslyovertheworld.

Atoncehebecameathingofthewild,stealingalongsoftly,cat-footed,apassingshadowthatappearedanddisappearedamongtheshadows. Heknewhowtotakeadvantageofeverycover,tocrawlonhisbellylikeasnake,andlikeasnaketoleapandstrike. Hecouldtakeaptarmiganfromitsnest,killarabbitasitslept,andsnapinmidairthelittlechipmunksfleeingasecondtoolateforthetrees.
