           Aboutaquartertoseven,Mrs.Inglethorpcalledusthatweshouldbelateassupperwasearlythatnight.Wehadratherascrambletogetreadyintime;andbeforethemealwasoverthemotorwaswaitingatthedoor.

           MaryhadexcusedherselfonthepleaofanengagementwithDr.Bauerstein.

           Wehadapleasantluncheon,andaswedroveawayLawrencesuggestedthatweshouldreturnbyTadminster,whichwasbarelyamileoutofourway,andpayavisittoCynthiainherdispensary.Mrs.Inglethorprepliedthatthiswasanexcellentidea,butasshehadseveralletterstowriteshewoulddropusthere,andwecouldcomebackwithCynthiainthepony-trap.

           Weweredetainedundersuspicionbythehospitalporter,untilCynthiaappearedtovouchforus,lookingverycoolandsweetinherlongwhiteoverall.
