TheyreassembledlaterbytheCasinoandmadearrangementsforthenight.Kerrywormedpermissionfromthewatchmantosleepontheplatformand,havingcollectedahugepileofrugsfromtheboothstoserveasmattressesandblankets,theytalkeduntilmidnight,andthenfellintoadreamlesssleep,thoughAmorytriedhardtostayawakeandwatchthatmarvellousmoonsettleonthesea.
Sotheyprogressedfortwohappydays,upanddowntheshorebystreet-carormachine,orbyshoe-leatheronthecrowdedboardwalk;sometimeseatingwiththewealthy,morefrequentlydiningfrugallyattheexpenseofanunsuspectingrestaurateur.Theyhadtheirphotostaken,eightposes,inaquick-developmentstore.Kerryinsistedongroupingthemasa"varsity"footballteam,andthenasatoughgangfromtheEastSide,withtheircoatsinsideout,andhimselfsittinginthemiddleonacardboardmoon.Thephotographerprobablyhasthemyet—atleast,theynevercalledforthem.Theweatherwasperfect,andagaintheysleptoutside,andagainAmoryfellunwillinglyasleep.
