           Thehousewaslikeafurniturewarehouse.Ithinkthechildrenenjoyeditverymuch.Motherwasverybusy,butnottoobusynowtotalktothem,andreadtothem,andeventomakeabitofpoetryforPhyllistocheerherupwhenshefelldownwithascrewdriverandranitintoherhand.

           "Aren’tyougoingtopackthis,Mother?"Robertaasked,pointingtothebeautifulcabinetinlaidwithredturtleshellandbrass.

           "Wecan’ttakeeverything,"saidMother.

           "Butweseemtobetakingalltheuglythings,"saidRoberta.

           "We’retakingtheusefulones,"saidMother;"we’vegottoplayatbeingPoorforabit,mychickabiddy."

           Whenalltheuglyusefulthingshadbeenpackedupandtakenawayinavanbymeningreen-baizeaprons,thetwogirlsandMotherandAuntEmmasleptinthetwospareroomswherethefurniturewasallpretty.Alltheirbedshadgone.AbedwasmadeupforPeteronthedrawing-roomsofa.

           "Isay,thisislarks,"hesaid,wrigglingjoyously,asMothertuckedhimup."Idolikemoving!Iwishwemovedonceamonth."

           Motherlaughed.

           "Idon’t!"shesaid."Goodnight,Peterkin."
