Uponhisgraduationin1914hewenthometoBaltimorewithhisHarvarddiplomainhispocket.HildegardewasnowresidinginItaly,soBenjaminwenttolivewithhisson,Roscoe.ButthoughhewaswelcomedinageneralwaytherewasobviouslynoheartinessinRoscoe’sfeelingtowardhim—therewasevenperceptibleatendencyonhisson’sparttothinkthatBenjamin,ashemopedaboutthehouseinadolescentmooniness,wassomewhatintheway.RoscoewasmarriednowandprominentinBaltimorelife,andhewantednoscandaltocreepoutinconnectionwithhisfamily.
