Dumbledoreapproachedthewallofthecaveandcaresseditwithhisblackenedfingertips,murmuringwordsinastrangetonguethatHarrydidnotunderstand.TwiceDumbledorewalkedrightaroundthecave,touchingasmuchoftheroughrockashecould,occasionallypausing,runninghisfingersbackwardandforwardoveraparticularspot,untilfinallyhestopped,hishandpressedflatagainstthewall.

HarrydidnotaskhowDumbledoreknew.Hehadneverseenawizardworkthingsoutlikethis,simplybylookingandtouching;butHarryhadlongsincelearnedthatbangsandsmokeweremoreoftenthemarksofineptitudethanexpertise.
Dumbledoresteppedbackfromthecavewallandpointedhiswandattherock.Foramoment,anarchedoutlineappearedthere,blazingwhiteasthoughtherewasapowerfullightbehindthecrack.
"You’ved-doneit!"saidHarrythroughchatteringteeth,butbeforethewordshadlefthislipstheoutlinehadgone,leavingtherockasbareandsolidasever.Dumbledorelookedaround.
"Harry,I’msosorry,Iforgot,"hesaid;henowpointedhiswandatHarryandatonce,Harry’sclotheswereaswarmanddryasiftheyhadbeenhanginginfrontofablazingfire.
"Thankyou,"saidHarrygratefully,butDumbledorehadalreadyturnedhisattentionbacktothesolidcavewall.Hedidnottryanymoremagic,butsimplystoodtherestaringatitintently,asthoughsomethingextremelyinterestingwaswrittenonit.
