ThefissuresoonopenedintoadarktunnelthatHarrycouldtellwouldbefilledwithwaterathightide.TheslimywallswerebarelythreefeetapartandglimmeredlikewettarinthepassinglightofDumbledore’swand.Alittlewayin,thepassagewaycurvedtotheleft,andHarrysawthatitextendedfarintothecliff.HecontinuedtoswiminDumbledore’swake,thetipsofhisbenumbedfingersbrushingtherough,wetrock.
ThenhesawDumbledorerisingoutofthewaterahead,hissilverhairanddarkrobesgleaming.WhenHarryreachedthespothefoundstepsthatledintoalargecave.Heclamberedupthem,waterstreamingfromhissoakingclothes,andemerged,shiveringuncontrollably,intothestillandfreezingair.
Dumbledorewasstandinginthemiddleofthecave,hiswandheldhighasheturnedslowlyonthespot,examiningthewallsandceiling.
"Yes,thisistheplace,"saidDumbledore.
"Howcanyoutell?"Harryspokeinawhisper.
"Ithasknownmagic,"saidDumbledoresimply.Harrycouldnottellwhethertheshivershewasexperiencingwereduetohisspine-deepcoldnessortothesameawarenessofenchantments.HewatchedasDumbledorecontinuedtorevolveonthespot,evidentlyconcentratingonthingsHarrycouldnotsee.
