           Harrydidn’tevenhavetimetoturnaround. Therewasaloudclickingnoiseandsuddenlyhefeltsomethinglongandhairyseizehimaroundthemiddleandlifthimofftheground,sothathewashangingfacedown. Struggling,terrified,heheardmoreclicking,andsawRon’slegsleavetheground,too,heardFangwhimperingandhowling-nextmoment,hewasbeingsweptawayintothedarktrees. 

           Headhanging,Harrysawthatwhathadholdofhimwasmarchingonsiximmenselylong,hairylegs,thefronttwoclutchinghimtightlybelowapairofshiningblackpincers. Behindhim,hecouldhearanotherofthecreatures,nodoubtcarryingRon. Theyweremovingintotheveryheartoftheforest. HarrycouldhearFangfightingtofreehimselffromathirdmonster,whiningloudly,butHarrycouldn’thaveyelledevenifhehadwantedto;heseemedtohavelefthisvoicebackwiththecarintheclearing. 

           Heneverknewhowlonghewasinthecreature’sclutches;heonlyknewthatthedarknesssuddenlyliftedenoughforhimtoseethattheleaf-strewngroundwasnowswarmingwithspiders. Craninghisnecksideways,herealizedthattheyhadreachedtheridgeofavasthollow,ahollowthathadbeenclearedoftrees,sothatthestarsshonebrightlyontotheworstscenehehadeverlaideyeson.
