           Alicewaitedalittle,halfexpectingtoseeitagain,butitdidnotappear,andafteraminuteortwoshewalkedoninthedirectioninwhichtheMarchHarewassaidtolive. "I’veseenhattersbefore,"shesaidtoherself: "theMarchHarewillbemuchthemostinteresting,andperhaps,asthisisMay,itwon’tberavingmadatleastnotsomadasitwasinMarch. "Asshesaidthis,shelookedup,andtherewastheCatagain,sittingonabranchofatree. 

           "Didyousay‘pig’,or‘fig’? "saidtheCat. 

           "Isaid‘pig’,"repliedAlice; "andIwishyouwouldn’tkeepappearingandvanishingsosuddenly: youmakeonequitegiddy." 

           "Allright,"saidtheCat; andthistimeitvanishedquiteslowly, beginningwiththeendofthetail,andendingwiththegrin,whichremainedsometimeaftertherestofithadgone. 

           "Well!I’veoftenseenacatwithoutagrin,"thoughtAlice;"butagrinwithoutacat!It’sthemostcuriousthingIeversawinallmylife!" 

           ShehadnotgonemuchfartherbeforeshecameinsightofthehouseoftheMarchHare: shethoughtitmustbetherighthouse,becausethechimneyswereshapedlikeearsandtheroofwasthatchedwithfur. Itwassolargeahouse,thatshedidnotliketogonearertillshehadnibbledsomemoreoftheleft-handbitofmushroom,andraisedherselftoabouttwofeethigh:
