Bythistimeshehadfoundherwayintoatidylittleroomwithatableinthewindow,andonit(asshehadhoped)afanandtwoorthreepairsoftinywhitekid-gloves: shetookupthefanandapairofthegloves,andwasjustgoingtoleavetheroom,whenhereyefelluponalittlebottlethatstoodnearthelooking-glass. Therewasnolabelthistimewiththewords"DRINKME,"butneverthelesssheuncorkeditandputittoherlips. "Iknowsomethinginterestingissuretohappen,"shesaidtoherself,"wheneverIeatordrinkanything:soI’lljustseewhatthisbottledoes. Idohopeit’llmakemegrowlargeagain,forreallyI’mquitetiredofbeingsuchatinylittlething!"
Itdidsoindeed,andmuchsoonerthanshehadexpected:beforeshehaddrunkhalfthebottle,shefoundherheadpressingagainsttheceiling,andhadtostooptosaveherneckfrombeingbroken. Shehastilyputdownthebottle,sayingtoherself "That’squiteenough—IhopeIshan’tgrowanymore—Asitis,Ican’tgetoutatthedoor—IdowishIhadn’tdrunkquitesomuch!"
Alas!Itwastoolatetowishthat!Shewentongrowing,andgrowing, andverysoonhadtokneeldownonthefloor:inanotherminutetherewasnotevenroomforthis, andshetriedtheeffectoflyingdownwithoneelbowagainstthedoor,andtheotherarmcurledroundherhead. Stillshewentongrowing,and,asalastresource,sheputonearmoutofthewindow,andonefootupthechimney,andsaidtoherself "NowIcandonomore,whateverhappens. Whatwillbecomeofme?"
