           Thiswasagreedto,andMrs.Phillipsprotestedthattheywouldhaveanicecomfortablenoisygameoflotterytickets,andalittlebitofhotsupperafterwards. Theprospectofsuchdelightswasverycheering,andtheypartedinmutualgoodspirits. Mr.Collinsrepeatedhisapologiesinquittingtheroom,andwasassuredwithunwearyingcivilitythattheywereperfectlyneedless. 

           Astheywalkedhome,ElizabethrelatedtoJanewhatshehadseenpassbetweenthetwogentlemen; butthoughJanewouldhavedefendedeitherorboth,hadtheyappearedtobeinthewrong,shecouldnomoreexplainsuchbehaviourthanhersister. 

           Mr.CollinsonhisreturnhighlygratifiedMrs.BennetbyadmiringMrs.Phillips’smannersandpoliteness. Heprotestedthat,exceptLadyCatherineandherdaughter,hehadneverseenamoreelegantwoman; forshehadnotonlyreceivedhimwiththeutmostcivility,butevenpointedlyincludedhiminherinvitationforthenextevening,althoughutterlyunknowntoherbefore. Something,hesupposed,mightbeattributedtohisconnectionwiththem,butyethehadnevermetwithsomuchattentioninthewholecourseofhislife.
